As a female soldier in the near future, I agree and disagree with this. I use to agree 100% until I started going to a CrossFit (intense cardio exercise) class on an Air Force base with male and female soldiers. Both were in peak physical condition, however I cannot deny the males were a heck of a lot stronger than women. When we would use medicine balls, the males would use 20 pounds and the women would use 12, when we lift dead weights, the women lift 95 pounds and the men lift 135. Now in normal day to day life in the military that is nothing, but in an intense combat situation, that can mean the difference between life and death. It is a simple matter of men are just stronger than females. However I do agree with this post because even if they are not put in combat MOS’s (fancy word for that’s your military job) like infantry, they are still put in situations where they COULD face combat. Women are being deployed just like men are to Afganistan. Women are dying just like men are in the military. Do I think women should be placed in certain MOS’s like Infantry? Yes, if they can pass the physical requirments. Are there some MOS’s that I think should be restricted just to men ONLY because of male’s physical strength? Yes. I do not believe all the bullshit of, “A man would put his life at risk to save a woman over a man.” In the military, your company is your family, a brotherhood. Would a man not risk his life to save his best friend because his friend was a guy? All in all, everyone in the military are heroes and I respect them all, male or female. HOOAH. 176 notes
